Education and Leadership Fund
We need strong leadership in our local communities. Trustees established the Education and Leadership Fund in 2017 to provide education and leadership opportunities for talented individuals and organisations in the Rotorua and Taupo district communities. Once this Fund reaches its investment target (currently $50,000), gifts will be directed at charitable purposes which support opportunities to build our leaders of tomorrow and to fund initiatives which strengthen the capacity of the local voluntary sector.
Harold Holmes Student Grant Fund
Local businessman Harold Holmes set up the Harold Holmes Student Grant Trust in 1991 to assist high school students in Rotorua with the cost of their tertiary studies. Geyser was invited to take over the management of the Fund in 2012. Harold Holmes’ family remains involved in selecting scholarship recipients.
Margriet Theron Fund
Since 2008, funding has been available for the purpose of awarding scholarships to residents of Rotorua (and since 2012 also residents of Taupo) to enrol in Speech New Zealand Diploma examinations in Speech, Drama and Public Speaking. Gaining these qualifications provides a pathway towards becoming a teacher of Speech, Drama and Public Speaking. There is a serious shortage of such teachers in New Zealand and these scholarships will help to ensure that there will be an ongoing supply of speech communications teachers. Migrants who have made Rotorua or Taupo their home also benefit from the Fund which provides scholarships to part-fund examination fees for the Speech NZ Certificates in Professional Speaking.
Peter O’Flaherty Fund
Deserving students (including adults) residing or having family links in the Rotorua District community who could not otherwise afford to continue their academic or practical education will benefit from this Fund established in 2017.
The John Chadwick Rangatahi Fund
Young people from all cultures in the Rotorua District benefit from The John Chadwick Rangatahi Fund. Well-known and respected local lawyer, John Te Manihera Chadwick NZOM died suddenly in Rotorua in May 2017. A man of words and music, he worked selflessly for 30 years with community organisations that made a difference for young people. The Chadwick whanau established this Fund to honour his memory with the support of Te Waiariki Purea Trust and the Rotorua Youth Centre Trust.
