RECORD NUMBER OF LOCAL STUDENTS BENEFIT FROM AWARDS

Congratulations to the Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarship recipients who recently received their awards at a special presentation at St Faith’s Church, Ohinemutu, Rotorua.

Congratulations to the 2023 – 2024 Pita & Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarship recipients.

In 2015, Pita Anaru established the Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarship Fund with the Geyser Community Foundation to honour the memory of his late wife, Beverley.

Today, more than 50 scholarships with a combined value of over $260,000 have been awarded.

The Fund provides scholarships for the advancement of education to Te Arawa descendants studying at NZQA Level 4 or above who are committed to contributing to the development and prosperity of the Te Arawa iwi, hapu and whanau.

Beverley Anaru was a skilled and passionate educationalist who gave over 60 years’ service to education, both nationally and internationally.

Mr Anaru believed the Geyser Community Foundation was the ideal vehicle in which to honour Beverley’s memory and to make an enduring contribution to the educational achievement of Te Arawa descendants.

Geyser’s Chairman, Helene Phillips said the Foundation had been honoured to have been chosen to manage the scholarship fund on behalf of the Anaru whanau for the past seven years.

Pita Anaru passed away in October 2023.

This evening (17 January 2023), nine more students who whakapapa to Te Arawa will receive scholarships at a special and final Presentation at St Faith’s Church, Ohinemutu, Rotorua.

This year the Scholarships will be known as the Pita and Beverley Anaru Memorial Scholarships to acknowledge the well-known and highly respected couple, and the enormous contribution they made to the local community over many years.
