This year, four local community organisations received gifts totalling $17,169 from the Geyser Community Foundation.
Geyser is the Local Donations Manager appointed by The Tindall Foundation in its Families / Whanau programme area.
Chair of Geyser’s Distribution Advisory Committee, Ann Nicholas said projects that worked alongside a wide range of people in the Taupo District community received support this year.
All funding applications are assessed by Geyser’s Distribution Advisory Committee, a group of six volunteers representing the Taupo and Rotorua communities, who give their own time and expertise in considering the applications.
As a Local Donations Manager, The Tindall Foundation provides Geyser with funds to distribute to charitable organisations in the Taupo and Rotorua Districts.
The four local community organisations and charities to receive gifts from the Geyser Community Foundation were:
- Age Concern Taupo received a gift of $7,000 to assist with wages and rent. Age Concern Taupo provides services to older people and their families within the Taupo, Turangi, Mangakino, and South Waikato regions. Age Concern Taupo received $4,000 last year.
- Family and Financial Solutions Trust received a gift of $2,169 to help cover three-months’ rent allowing the Trust to continue to deliver its wide range of services to the local community. Family facilitation and dispute resolution, financial mentoring, life coaching, as well as collaboration and connection with other core services to support wellbeing are provided at no cost to clients.
- Pregnancy Help Taupo received $5,000 to help with administration and operational expenses. Pregnancy Help Taupo offers practical assistance, support and referrals to anyone with a child under the age of five. The service is free to clients and Pregnancy Help Taupo run a drop-in centre four days a week. Pregnancy Help Taupo received $3,000 last year.
- Taupo Council of Social Services received $3,000 to help with the costs of a new Volunteer Hub, which came about because of requests for support from local community groups. A caravan has been leased and it will be kitted out as a mobile office that can go to where people gather and be seen in the community.
Mrs Nicholas said Geyser Trustees had approved gifts totalling more than $450,000 to a wide range of community organisations in the Taupo and Rotorua District communities since first being appointed Funding Manager by The Tindall Foundation in 2013.
Applications open again on 1 March 2023.
