Scholarships and Award Opportunities
Some of our generous donors have chosen to make provision for scholarships and awards through the Geyser Community Foundation.

EDUCATION
Margriet Theron (formerly known as Speech NZ)
Up to four Scholarships are available to residents in the Rotorua and Taupō District communities for the Associate of Speech NZ examination fees.
Norman Steele Memorial Scholarship
2024 – 2025 Value: $2,500
One scholarship is available to a student who can whakapapa to Te Arawa, and who is studying medicine full-time at one of the two registered Medical Schools in New Zealand. Applicants must have completed one year of full-time study at the Medical School at either Auckland University or Otago University.

Colin & Jenny McDonald Fund
2024 Value: $1,200
Half the annual award is to assist classical musicians (as a preference but not limited to) of any age to further their studies to gain tertiary, advanced or diploma level qualifications from nationally or internationally recognised bodies, or to assist with the purchase of instruments, music and texts for individuals who are working towards such qualification.
Half the annual award is to assist disabled persons of any age to buy specialist equipment needed to enhance their day to day living, work or education requirements and opportunities.

Peter, Joan and Kay Dean Reporoa Educational Past Pupils Award
2024 Value: $5,000
The Peter, Joan and Kay Dean Reporoa Educational Past Pupils Award is for former students of Reporoa College who want to retrain or upskill.

Putāruru Veterinary Club Education Scholarship
2024 Value: $11,500
Applications are open to full-time students from the South Waikato District who are studying veterinary sciences, agriculture or other disciplines that will benefit farming.

2024 Value: $1,200
Applications are open to students of any age, who would not normally have an opportunity to get the most out of their education.

2024 Value: $6,000
Gifts from the Rotorua Women’s Club Fund are open to women and women’s groups based within the Rotorua District community who are committed to creating positive change for local women and girls in one of the following areas: Arts, Education, Family Welfare, Health or Sport.

Four scholarships to the value of $500 each, are available to assist the development of young musicians’ skills.

FAMILY/WHANAU SUPPORT
Cockburn Fund
2024 Value: $1,200
Individuals with chronic long-term disability who live in the Taupō District community receive assistance from this Fund. Gifts are made for the provision of specialised disability equipment, including vehicle modifications and associated home modifications, and disability costs which are not covered by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).

The Ngatuku Farms Fund provides assistance to individuals (children and adults) who have special needs or who are physically or intellectually disabled, or to an organisation which supports special needs or disabled clients. Applicants must live within the Rotorua District.*
