The end of the financial year is just around the corner, making it the perfect time to support your local community through the Geyser Community Foundation (Registered Charity No: CC21560).

Donations of $5 or more made to a registered charity are eligible for a 33.3% tax credit from IRD up to the level of your taxable income. So if you give $150, you will receive $50 back as a tax credit and so on. Visit the IRD website for more information.
The new process for getting a tax credit is now even simpler. There is no need to complete a paper form this year because you can now claim donation tax credits in a myIR accounts, IRD’s secure online service.
- You will receive your refund much sooner.
- Your receipts can be electronic receipts, or photos or scans of paper receipts.
- Your receipts can be uploaded anytime during the year.
Every year, generous Kiwis give more than $3 billion to charities and community organisations. However, estimates from IRD suggest a large percentage of donation tax credits are never claimed.

The easiest way to claim your donation tax credit is online in myIR – and you’ll receive your refund sooner. Using myIR means the IRD can work out your tax credit without you having to file a claim when the tax year ends on 31 March. You can submit your receipts any time throughout the tax year or submit them all together at the end of the tax year. You need to wait till after end of the tax year to receive your tax credit.
