Geyser Community Foundation is part of a network of 18 Community Foundations of Aotearoa NZ that have been growing across Aotearoa New Zealand since 2003.
Our aim, like all Community Foundations, is to build long-term, reliable funding streams for our local communities by investing and growing the gifts we receive. So, you’re not really giving to a Community Foundation, but through it. With us, your generosity can have impact for many, many years.
Working alongside our national body, Community Foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand (CFANZ) we’re all working to make a lasting difference in our local communities. Our aim is for every New Zealander to be able to affect lasting change wherever their home or heart may be.
Community Foundations are different for two main reasons:
1. Our smarter giving model sets us apart from other charities. Donations are invested so they can grow and become long term reliable funding streams. It’s the income your giving earns that is distributed to worthy, local causes every year; the original gift itself remains protected so it can continue to benefit your chosen causes in your community well into the future.
2. We’re not about one single cause; we’re about a place and its people. Through us you can choose which significant local projects and causes to invest in to help transform your community.
In the past five years, the 18 Community Foundations currently operating in Aotearoa New Zealand have gifted more than $50M to communities across the country and today, we have over $200M invested in endowment funds for the future. With hundreds of bequests yet to be invested, and our smarter giving model protecting the original gifts, the potential good we can do in future is huge.
The concept of pooling and investing charitable donations for the good of a local area has been a global movement for more than 100 years. It works for everyday people because you don’t have to be wealthy to make an impact. Whether its a large or small gift, a one off or regular contribution, all giving makes a difference through us.
