Pat Brown JP, Chairman
Appointed by the Mayor of Taupo

A Chartered Accountant, Pat is well-known and highly respected in the Taupo community. He is a founding Partner of Strettons, a Fellow of CAANZ (Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) and has served on the Institute of Chartered Accountants Professional Conduct Committee. A past Chairman of Taupo Electricity and former Director of TrustPower, he has served as a Borough Councillor, is a Justice of the Peace and been involved in a number of local community organisations.  Pat and his wife Hilary have four adult children and enjoy the outdoor Taupo lifestyle where they have lived for 40 years.

Pat was elected Chairman of the Foundation in 2015 succeeding Joe La Grouw who served as Chairman from 2007 - 2015.

Jeanne Bright, Deputy Chair

Appointed by Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of CAANZ

Jeanne is a Director of Bright Wild, Thomas & Lee, Chartered Accountants. She has lived in Rotorua for 30 years during which time she has forged a strong career in accountancy. Jeanne is very committed to Rotorua having been involved in numerous local organisations. She is underpinned by her family values. Jeanne and her husband, Mike have brought up three great children and share a passion for the arts, mountain biking, food and culture.

Born and raised in Rotorua, Mary-Robyn is a chartered accountant and Associate of True North Chartered Accountants. She began her accountancy career in Sydney, and after a short break to raise her family, returned to work in Rotorua.  With over 20 years’ experience in the chartered accountancy field, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Geyser.

A people person, Mary-Robyn has four adult children and two grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys walking, reading and relaxing with friends and family.

Tom Davies 

Appointed by Geyser’s Board of Trustees


Tom has had 16 years as an Investment Adviser with Craigs Investment Partners. Other roles were Manager of Craigs Investment Partners Rotorua Branch and Director of Craigs Investment Partners.  Prior to Craigs, Tom worked for the National Bank of NZ.  Tom has a BCom (Ag) degree from Lincoln University, a NZ Exchange Diploma, holds a Share Broker's Licence and is a member of the New Zealand Exchange (NZX).  Tom is married to Mel and they have three children.  In his spare time he enjoys the outdoors, especially fly fishing, diving, running and golf.

Ryan Holmes

Appointed by the Mayor of Rotorua

Born in Rotorua, Ryan is proud to be a third generation Rotorua businessman. Educated in Rotorua and Hamilton, he is Managing Director of Holmes Group NZ and Holmes Group USA, which manage significant residential and commercial holdings, sub divisional development, and commercial and retail construction. Ryan also serves on a number of local council committees and steering groups, including the Inner City Steering Group and Connect Rotorua, and is a Trustee of the Harold Holmes Student Grant Trust, managed by Geyser. Ryan and his wife, Tammy-Lee have two young daughters. In his spare time, he enjoys flying (holds a helicopter pilots licence), hunting, fishing and cooking.

Kierin Irvine

Appointed by Geyser’s Board of Trustees

Kierin has been a highly respected and well-liked GP in Rotorua since 1976 when he and his wife, Janette, were House Surgeons at Rotorua Hospital.  Having ceased full-time general practice, Kierin worked as a part-time locum. A Director of LakesCare, Kierin has been a Rotarian since 1979. He is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Rotorua and a Paul Harris Fellow.  Kierin enjoys yachting, golf and tramping, and working on the couple's coastal avocado orchard.

Fraser McKenzie MNZM JP

Appointed by Geyser’s Board of Trustees


For more than 50 years, Fraser and his wife, Dorothy, have farmed in the rural community of Ngakuru, where the family still live. A former Chairman of the Bay of Plenty Harbour Board and the Harbours Association of New Zealand, Fraser chaired the Transitional Unit which established Port of Tauranga Ltd, becoming the company’s foundation chairman. In 2004, he retired from the Port of Tauranga after 30 years’ service. He became chairman of the Auckland Herd Improvement Association in 1988 and chairman of the Livestock Improvement Corporation in 1992. A director of the Dairy Research Corporation for six years, Fraser retired from all dairy industry governance roles in 1996. Appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1971, he is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Rotorua West, where he is still an active member and is a Paul Harris Fellow. Fraser was awarded the MNZM in 1999 for services to the port industry.

Ann Nicholas

Appointed by Geyser’s Board of Trustees

A planning consultant, Ann is a principal of Sigma Consultants, a company she helped establish in Rotorua in 1993. Originally from Christchurch, she completed her planning degree in Auckland before moving to Rotorua 40 years ago, where she and her husband, Ian, who died in 2013, brought up their three children.

The local community has always been important to Ann. She has been involved in a number of voluntary organisations in Rotorua, including being an active member and past president of the Rotary Club of Rotorua.  Outside of work, Ann enjoys walking, biking, gardening and reading, as well as a variety of handcrafts, and spending time with family and friends.

Murray Patchell

Appointed by Pukeroa Oruawhata Trust

A Chartered Accountant, Murray commenced working with NZI Trust (now Perpetual Guardian) in Hamilton in 1977 and rose to Branch Manager in Rotorua. In 1995 he became a partner in Hulton Patchell Limited, which subsequently merged with Deloitte in 2013. A member of CAANZ (Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) since 1985, Murray is a Director of First Sovereign Trust Limited and an advisory Trustee of the Harold Holmes Student Grant Trust managed by Geyser. A member of the Rotorua Rotary Club since 1990, he is a Past President, a Past Assistant Governor and a Paul Harris Fellow, and has been involved in a number of community projects. He is married to Helen and they have two children.  


Helene Phillips 2 

Helene Phillips

Appointed by Geyser’s Board of Trustees

Helene and her partner, Peter Jarvis moved to Acacia Bay to semi-retire in 2008. A Director of Ferner Galleries, one of New Zealand’s leading art dealers founded by Peter in Auckland in 1985, she is a former Foundation Trustee of the Auckland Art Fair and Trustee of the Lake Taupo Arts Trust. Helene is currently President of the Tauhara Luncheon and Lecture Club, a member of the Taupo Women’s Club and was secretary of the organising committee for the 69th annual conference of the New Zealand Rhododendron Association held in Taupo in 2013. She served as an Ambassador of the Geyser Community Foundation from 2013 until her appointment as a Trustee in 2018.

Chris Spargo

Appointed by Waikato Bay of Plenty Branch of the New Zealand Law Society

Chris formed specialist law firm Blackman Spargo (Rural and Commercial Law) with Ian Blackman in Rotorua in 2003 and has been practising for 16 years. Specialises in rural and commercial legal work, the majority of which involves legal structures, family trusts, tax advice, property transactions, subdivisions, company legal work and overseas investment.  A member of the New Zealand Law Society Rural Technical Committee, he has chaired the Society’s Rural Law Conference. He is married to Heather and they have two young children.
